Congratulatory Remark

Distinguished guests, faculty, alumni, students, ladies and gentlemen,

Good morning!

I would like to begin by expressing my gratitude to all of you for taking the time to participate in today’s event.

It is a great honor and pleasure for me to welcome you to the 2013 Global ICT Seoul Forum & SMPR workshop. I also brought heartfelt greetings from the members of KAIST and SNU, the hosting institutes, to the prominent speakers from Nepal, Mongolia, Uganda, Nigeria, Columbia, Sudan, Iran, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Korea.

First of all, I would like to extend congratulations and appreciation to our fellow faculty, staff, alumni, students and well-wishers, who have immensely contributed to the success of the programs.  Being parts of a broad global initiative of the Korean Government, the programs have been running well in Seoul National University (SNU) and Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) with the vision to excel in the global ICT leadership.

Also, it is an honor to celebrate 10 year anniversary of SMPR(Smart Media Research Policy Center). The research center originated from CPRC(Communications Policy Research Center) program managed by Korea Communication Commission. We congratulate this endeavor fostering the regulation and policy research of Korea ICT as Smart Media Researcher.

In the 21st century, ICT industry is playing an important role in a nation’s economy and holds a great potential for development and prosperity. Therefore, the Korean government has organized the International IT Policy program and the Global IT Technology Program since year 2003 to offer Master’s and Ph.D. degrees. The programs are open to government officials or professionals of IT business fields in Asia, Middle East, Latin America and Africa.

This forum is a renewal effort to exchange new ideas and research accomplishments, share views and explore collaboration among the stakeholders from different countries. Moreover, it is a more meaningful event for us because we have our alumni joining us here today, and this forum could be possible only because our current ITPP, ITTP and SMPR students have joined their hands for a smooth preparation.

Ladies and gentlemen, we are living in an era of globalization. Although there are political borders among nations, there is no border in terms of science and technology. We, scientists, engineers, and professionals, should strive together to promote advances in science and technology for the betterment of mankind. That is why, human network is very important in this knowledge-based society. I expect that we will be able to find great opportunities to make new friends and explore possibilities of future collaborations during and after the forum. And I am confident that the deliberations from our distinguished guests will give us the way forward to lead the programs to a sustainable height.

With these few words, once again, congratulate all of you once again and hope that you have a productive time through this forum.

Thank you very much.
